Title: Vice Principal
Credentials / Experience:
Master’s degree Education
Minimum 3 years’ full time teaching experience preferred
Principal Certification (Level 1)
General Responsibilities:
1. The position is responsible for assisting the school principal in the leadership, coordination, supervision and management of the school program and operation.
2. Assist the principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with Board guidelines and the school philosophy, policies and goals of the Board; meeting and conferring with students, parents, faculty and staff; maintaining records and files; preparing reports.
3. Serves as a member of the Executive Council.
Specific
Responsibilities:
1. Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school; interpret and enforce school and school division policies and regulations.
2. Assist the principal in the transformation of the school culture into a results-oriented collaborative learning community.
3. Support the principal in the collaborative development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the school’s Strategic Plan.
4. Ensure implementation of the Board-approved curriculum.
5. Assist the principal in monitoring compliance with school Board and Ministry of Education mandates and guidelines related to testing programs and the local special education program.
6. Assist the principal in planning and implementing a professional development/growth program for teachers and staff.
7. Serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
8. Propose schedules of classes and extracurricular activities; help schedule courses, students and teachers.
9. Work with department heads and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.
10. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment, conduct inventories, maintain records, and check on receipts for such material.
11. Assist in coordinating safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
12. Assist in the reporting and monitoring of student attendance.
13. Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student body; deal with special cases as necessary.
14. Serve with parents, faculty, and student groups, as requested, in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
15. Maintain a variety of files; prepare periodic and special reports as required.
16. Maintain the code of conduct established and ensure students are adhering to it.
17. Maintain student discipline and follow-through with correspondence record keeping relating to discipline.
18. Identify the special needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school system specialists as required.
19. Supervise teachers and departments as assigned by the principal.
20. Explain and interpret school-wide curriculum/instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents, pupils, and the community.
21. Assist in the planning and implementation of a systematic method of supervising the instructional program through the use of learning walks, observations, documentations, and follow-up conferences.
22. Assist teachers in evaluating methods and materials and developing effective learning plans and classroom management techniques.
23. Assist in the coordination and supervision of guidance services.
24. To coordinate new student orientation and new student home- room responsibilities.
25. Maintain and model high standards of professionalism.
26. To schedule parent/teacher conferences and to maintain records and correspondence relating to parent conferences as required.
27. Serves as a member of the Child Study Team (CST) to support the referral process to include pre-referral screening and conferences, pupil progression, school level articulation.
28. Head the behavior management / incentive program and counsel students when necessary, working closely with the school guidance counselors.
29. Assists with the coordination of student placement, student records, and student recognition programs.
30. Performs other tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
