Regional Info:
Dhahran is on the border to Bahrain which is like a mini-Dubai for our area. There you can find movie theaters, hotel and restaurant chains, as well as an indoor waterpark and shopping malls. We provide our expat teachers with an open visa, so they have the option to travel there an unlimited number of times a year. (There is a fee to use the bridge, which isn’t much, Riyals 100 roundtrip.) The city has several large malls filled with many luxury stores as well as familiar European and Western brands. Given the ARAMCO compound, there is a strong expat community which has helped attract all the traditional ‘Western’ food chains and supermarket food brands. They are located on the Gulf, which affords us direct access to beautiful beaches which many persons make use of for picnics and water sports. They have a few major hotel chains in the city such as Radisson, Movenpick, and Holiday Inn, just to name a few.
