Puxi, the historic heart of Shanghai, is a highly desirable area for expats to live and work due to its rich cultural character, walkable neighbourhoods, and excellent amenities. Unlike the ultra-modern skyscrapers of Pudong across the river, Puxi offers a more traditional Shanghai experience with charming tree-lined streets, colonial architecture, and vibrant local markets alongside upscale restaurants, bars, and cafes. It’s home to many international schools, healthcare facilities, and cultural institutions, making daily life convenient and engaging. The area is well-connected by public transport and offers a strong sense of community, especially in popular expat districts like the Former French Concession. For those seeking a balance between modern comfort and authentic city life, Puxi offers a uniquely livable and rewarding environment. " Shanghai is a very easy city in which to relocate! There is something for everyone and a large expat community in which you can be involved compared to other cities in China. The school makes you feel welcome immediately. On my first day I had felt like I had been here for years already. Very helpful in providing a comfortable transition."
