An international school in Central Europe is seeking to appoint a passionate and inspirational Secondary IGCSE and A Level Business and Economics Teacher (Business is the priority, Economics in addition would be greatly preferred). This role is for a November start, however a January or February may also be possible. With this timeframe, only EU candidates can be accepted for visa purposes (although they can also consider spouses of EU citizens depending on their nationality).

Teachers must be appropriately qualified with a BEd or BA plus PGCE (or equivalent) and QTS plus UK curriculum teaching experience (A-level and/or IGCSE teaching experience at Secondary level. All applicants must be fluent English speakers and have experience of supporting students either in the UK, or in an English medium school elsewhere. Experience in international schools, though desirable, is not essential. Organisational skills, initiative, flexibility, independence and a strong belief in a child-centred approach to education along with a warm, friendly, happy disposition are sought. The successful candidate must above all be dedicated to educational excellence and international best practice. They should be creative, energetic, flexible and genuinely interested in students and consistently respectful of children, staff, parents and the wider community.

The school offers an outstanding International education, centred on the Cambridge Pathway and enhanced by the Slovak National Curriculum, but with a focus always on international best practice. The School has ambitious and compelling plans for further development and is strongly committed to the highest standards of education. They are fully licenced by the Slovak Ministry of Education. They are a young and expanding international school teaching the English National curriculum along with Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A Level. Class sizes are small - maximum 18 to IGCSE and 12 at A Level. The buildings are new and of an extremely high standard with large, airy and light classrooms (equipped with interactive whiteboards and other modern technology) as well as many common areas for students, staff and parents. They are not a selective school and students are generally from affluent local families or are the children of diplomats or expatriates working in Bratislava for international companies. 50% of the staff are from the UK with others from around the world.

Life is relatively easy & very enjoyable in Bratislava. An increasing number of local people speak English well, & it is now the first foreign language taught in Slovak schools. Although Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia, it has the feel of a large provincial town. It has a vibrant culture & is an extremely safe place for foreigners & their family. Bratislava has a very pleasant centre with many beautiful buildings & places of historic interest as well as excellent shops & restaurants. It is also a cycling & hiking paradise with much flat land, but also challenging hills & woodland trails for the more adventurous. There are many social opportunities both within the expatriate & local communities. There is a growing number of large, high end shopping centres of top-quality international standard with all leading brands, including several Tescos. The standard of food in restaurants & supermarkets can be compared equally to that of Austria, the Czech Republic or Hungary, & the basic requirements for day-to-day living are very affordable. Food & eating out is inexpensive (a 2-course meal with a glass or two of wine for around €20). The cinema, theatre, opera & ballet are cheap, with tickets from as little as €8- €10. There is an extensive & cheap public transport system within the country & the region. Trams & buses are frequent & reliable in Bratislava, as are train & coach services to other locations in Slovakia & Vienna (1 hr), Budapest (2 hrs) & Prague (4 hrs) are possible weekend visits & tickets are cheap (Vienna return by train around €12. Ryanair & Wizzair fly to many UK destinations with flights from €40 return. Castles abound, & Slovakia’s spa towns & mountain ranges are some of the most beautiful & unspoiled in Europe. There is high quality downhill & cross-country skiing during the winter & whilst winter temperatures can fall below -5 Celsius, daysa are often crisp & sunny. Buildings are designed for the cold & centrally heated, & many restaurants & bars are specifically prepared for cosy winter days.
