The International School of Macao (TIS) is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Head of School to lead a highly skilled and experienced collaborative faculty for a start date: August 2022.
The International School of Macao (TIS) is a school whose mission is to develop socially responsible life-long learners able to problem solve, think critically, and make positive changes in our global community.
English is the primary language of instruction. TIS is a coeducational non-profit school under the Macau University of Science and Technology Foundation (MUST). Macau is a Special Administrative Region of China and is bordered by the city of Zhuhai in China to the North and the Pearl River Estuary to the East and South. Hong Kong lies about 64km to its East across the Delta.
The International School of Macao is also affiliated with The Canadian International School of Phnom Penh in Cambodia and The Canadian International School of Guangzhou in China.
Our student body is comprised of 1394 students. Our students are truly international with 44 different nationalities represented.
Faculty and Staff
TIS currently employs over 200 faculty and staff members who hail from 14 different countries across the globe. Our highly qualified and experienced teaching team comes from Canada, China, Australia, Hong Kong and United States to name a few. We continue to maintain a highly skilled faculty from a variety of countries while still maintaining the necessary Canadian experience and expertise to meet our curricular demands. All teachers must be certified by Alberta Education. This is a rigorous process that ensures that all of our teachers have the necessary training and experience to deliver the curriculum. The process also includes professional and security checks as well.
The TIS Leadership Team is made up of members of our highly experienced administration team and school program coordinators. The administration team includes the Head of School, Secondary Principal and Vice Principals, Elementary Principal and Vice Principals and Kindergarten Coordinator. Program coordinators include Student Support, ELL, Technology, Mandarin, Curriculum and Athletics.
The progressive curriculum ensures that students are best prepared for the future by cultivating skills and attitudes that enable lifelong learning and caring for the community. By aligning pedagogy, curriculum and core values, our mission is to develop socially responsible lifelong learners able to problem solve, think critically, and make positive changes in our global community within a safe and caring environment.
The International School of Macao (TIS) offers the Alberta, Canada provincial curriculum at all grade levels, which is the cornerstone of our successful educational program. TIS’s excellent results in the 2018 PISA tests (Program for International Student Assessment) show the effectiveness of the Alberta curriculum and the teaching strategies that are used at the school. As an Alberta accredited offshore school, TIS must meet rigorous requirements in order to offer this world-class curriculum. TIS will soon be adding the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) as an option to its curriculum for Grades 10-12. The two-year IB DP is a challenging and balanced pre-university educational program that is recognized worldwide. The similarity between the Alberta and IB programs will allow students selecting this option to graduate with dual diplomas.
In addition to our regular curriculum, all students in grades 3-11 take part in the Canadian Achievement Test (CAT). The CAT test is a standardized test which measures students’ basic reading, writing and mathematical skills. When compared to the average Canadian results, our students surpass the norm in all three areas.
Our grade 12 students are required to write standardized exams for their diploma courses, which account for 30% of the final grade in any given course. When compared to provincial results, TIS students perform better than the norm.
Campus and Facilities
The International School of Macao TIS is located in the heart of the Cotai Strip and sits on 26,500 m² within the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) campus. Our large, modern campus allows students to take full advantage of their academic and extra curricular goals and offers a progressive and world class-learning environment, which includes state-of-the-art sports and recreational facilities.
