Position: Vice Principal Pastoral

Requirements:
Education
• at least bachelor’s Level in Education or the equivalent
• a master’s degree in educational leadership or the equivalent is desirable
• psychology and/or Special Need qualification within bachelors or master’s advantageous
• teaching qualification
Professional
• at least 3 years’ experience in a senior leadership preferably in the Middle East
• high level of awareness of current research as to how children learn and develop
• capable to identify learning deficits and strengths to provide teaching and learning guidance
• efficient in implementing and maintaining operational systems for SEN and Pastoral care
• counselling and advisory skills in order to support and guide students, parents and colleagues
• efficient in material resource management and staff training
• well able to motivate high morale in students
Responsibilities
Promote a positive profile of the School’s Vision and Mission to all stakeholders
• key point of contact for all matters relating to student well-being
• responsible for the day-to-day management of students and administration of the various systems and procedures relating to student welfare, well-being and safeguarding
• oversee and monitor the behaviour, learning and progress of students
• communicate the highest expectations of behaviour and consistently and effectively implement the school’s behaviour management policy and procedures
Leadership and Management
• provide leadership to the school and demonstrates high ethical standards to motivate and serve as a role model for students to achieve school goals
• design, develop, implement and review the pastoral care and access frameworks
• lead and oversee all pastoral related events and activities – safeguarding - child protection and welfare
• arrange and make sure pastoral lessons are conducted properly
• establish a culture of high performance and development in students
• plan, organise and supervise life skills lessons
• take responsibility for the personal development, behaviour and welfare of students
• work with individual students who are at risk of exclusion or have attendance difficulties
• fair and firm with students, demonstrating politeness and respectfulness in line with the School’s Vision and Islamic Ethos and address any student concerns through proper channels
• supervise counsellors
• administer counselling sessions
• participate in situations when parents are involved and when a senior leader’s intervention is required.
• collaborate with the Administrative Principals to ensure that counsellors are working according to MOE protocol and maintaining records
• hold weekly meetings with Counsellors and Administrative Principals of each section
• follow up with talented students and plan on how they can enhance their talents
• manage the uniform and attendance of students to ensure effective implementation of the these policies
• Administrative Principals are required to notify the Pastoral Vice Principal about MOE competitions in order to monitor student registrations and verify that proper procedures are followed
Teaching and Learning
• promote a prime focus on student learning
• liaise with VP Academics to ensure appropriate targeted intervention is applied to students from vulnerable groups and monitor and evaluate the success of this
• work closely and monitor students with Behaviour Support Plans or Pastoral Support Plans
• ensure learning and access opportunities for culturally diverse and mixed ability students, with a variety of learning needs and styles
• consult and involve key role players about decisions that affect these students
• maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, staff members, management, and other relevant role players
• work alongside the Vice Principal Academics to celebrate positive achievement within the School
• first point of contact on all matters relating to students to establish positive, professional relationships with parents/carers and outside agencies, to promote the well-being of allstudents
• be aware of the legislations and Ministry procedures regarding student behaviour
• coordinate with the Vice Principal Academics to facilitate small group work sessions, e.g. anger management, esteem building and conflict resolution
• support the behaviour and welfare of students - implement the school’s equal opportunities and anti-bullying policies
• support high standards of the school dress code of students
• liaise with the Vice Principal Academics to ensure that students at risk of exclusion are guided towards appropriate curricular opportunities
• monitor, review and intervene to improve student punctuality, attendance and attitudes to learning
• create learning support plans and ensure regular contact with parents to follow up issues/incidents
• provide learner information, advice and guidance on issues that present barriers to learning and well-being
General Administration
• participate in school leadership and management group initiatives
• ensure the comprehensive records of SEN Departments on individual students and groups of students, monitor their overall progress, report to and maintain regular contact with parents
• develop/complete/amend required documentation within portfolio responsibilities of (but not limited to) job descriptions, policies, newsletters, handbooks, performance appraisal, supervisory & advisory reports, operational reports for School Principals, parent communication, staff development, student IEPS, activities and clubs etc
• manage the budget and resources of Pastoral Care and Access, in particular the ordering, maintenance, inventory, record keeping, storage and advice on resources and equipment
• coordination of student documentation for formal purposes e.g. cover work for students on exclusions/illness/etc
• investigation, recording and reporting of incidents
• attend pastoral meetings to discuss, plan and deliver work around vulnerable learners
• administer the school behaviour rewards and sanctions systems
• attend and participate in relevant meetings as required
Other
Arabic national
• lead and support assemblies
• support the organisation of Parents Evenings and other relevant school events as appropriate
• support and attend school trips and enrichment activities
• work with the Vice Principal Academics to develop and implement effective support transition programmes between grade levels
• encourage student participation and leadership in all areas of school life, through regular assemblies, charity events and participation in extracurricular
