Edvectus specialises in placing teachers into international schools worldwide. Our client schools sponsor the work visas for their teachers, which can have conditions about the length of and type of teaching experience teachers must have, as well as the home language of the teacher.  SA teachers can be disadvantaged because they don’t have experience in the key curricula (UK, US, Canada, Aus, NZ or IB) and English may not be their home language or it may be strongly accented and not acceptable to schools.  We find, unfortunately, that opportunities for SA passport holders are fewer, and because of this, to avoid frustration, we must be clear about the possibility that we can help you find a job abroad.

    • If you do not hold a valid South African passport or one from the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or Ireland, we are unlikely to be able to help.
    • If you are not an English first language speaker or you are not completely fluent in English (near mother-tongue), we won’t be able to help because our schools use English a the medium of instruction and the children who are English language learners have a low tolerance for strong accents of any kind.
    • If you are an English language/literature teacher, your home language must be English.
    • If you have a 4-year HDE but no degree, we will not be able to help you. A bachelor’s degree is needed.
  • Primary teachers and Early Years teachers

    • If you have a Bachelor of Education, a degree + PGCE, you must have 2 years of post-qualification teaching experience and be SACE registered.
    • If you have a Bachelor’s of Education and more than 2 years of post-qualification teaching experience, you can be considered for some jobs, including the  UAE government schools.
    • If you have a Bachelor’s of Education or PGCE + Degree and experience teaching the US, UK, or IB curriculum, we will have wider opportunities available.
  • Secondary Teachers

    • If you are an English, Maths, or Science Secondary (Middle or High School) teacher:
      • Most governments in the Middle East require a bachelor’s degree in your teaching subject. If you have a B.Ed., you must have significant coursework in your teaching subject.
      • For the  UAE government schoolsYou must have 2 years of post-qualification teaching experience and be SACE registered.
      • Most international schools want teachers who can teach up to the highest level (eg, grade 12). Opportunities for middle years teachers (intermediate phase) are very limited.
    • If your main teaching subject is something other than English, Maths, or Science, and you have a degree in your teaching subject as well as teacher training in that subject, you can register online, and we will contact you only if we have a matching job.  Your chances will be much higher if you have a US, UK, or IB curriculum teaching experience, and if you have only SA curriculum experience, the chance of finding a matching job is unfortunately slim.
    • If your main teaching subject is not English, Maths, or Science, and you do not have a matching degree in your teaching subject (or an HDE only), we will not likely be able to help, as this does not match the criteria of the vast majority of our client schools.

If you have experience in the US, UK, or International Baccalaureate programme, we will have a wider selection of opportunities for all subjects.

If you wish to register online, we request that you fill out and upload an Edvectus CV Builder (Click HERE to download the form) as your CV.
